about
Yep! I was recognized as the MVP track athlete at Coronado High School in 1978 (Lubbock, TX). Reflecting back on those by gone race days of my life, I wrote this song from the perspective of that inner conviction to keep going in a difficult race. I think team participation early on has profoundly influenced my entire life, certainly helped me develop some necessary and stubborn will power to survive as a creative person.
lyrics
When I Run bpm 150
V1: I put in the work heart and sole
Two steps forward then back I roll
Challenges yes, but hit that goal
Rockets all fired in complete control
(Pre-chorus) You can’t compete with the beat of my feet
Chorus: WHEN I RUN, run, run When I ru uh uh uh un
V2 I pound the path of rough terrain
FAST is the tempo I sustain
Skip to the rhythm, feel that gain
My philosophy will remain
Move with a purpose, GO get it done and
Chorus: ….RUN, run, run Come on now ru uh uh uh un
V3 Instrumental
(Pre-chorus doubles)
You can’t compete with the beat of my feet
You can’t compete with the beat of my feet
Chorus: When I ru uh uh uh un
When I run my troubles leave
When I run I set my heart free
So I ru uh uh uh un when I, when I
V4 said, I’d “Be right back”
I took a step, on the right track
It’s not too LA-ATE
to be IN THE ZONE
If you wanna COME ALONG
RUN, run, run
Come on now ru uh uh uh un
You can’t compete with the beat of my feet WHEN I RUN!
